Phalkirti Maharahaje joined BLC Robert in January 2018 and is a member of the Intellectual Property team. Amongst other duties, Phalkirti regularly conducts searches at the Industrial Property Office regarding Trademark adoption, brand clearance and the availability of marks and corporate names to assess the registrability of the marks and any possible conflicts. She has also helped clients to overcome refusals regarding the registration of their marks and has assisted with objections and oppositions regarding same.
Furthermore, she has drafted and reviewed legal documentation and has assisted in the preparation of legal opinions for different Intellectual Property matters. She also partakes in trademarks use investigation and has assisted clients with cancellation procedures. She has also helped clients in their negotiation to obtain consent letters. She frequently advises clients on the protection of their IP rights and infringement proceedings. She recently assisted owners of famous brands in dealing with illegal importation and distribution in Mauritius of counterfeit and/ or unauthorized goods.
Phalkirti holds a Higher Diploma in Paralegal Practice from the National Association of Licensed Paralegals Training, United Kingdom. She read law at the University of Sunderland, United Kingdom and went on to obtain a Postgraduate Certificate in Law Practice from the University of Northumbria, United Kingdom.
